After three seasons with Fordham Football, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Jon Wholley will be returning to his alma mater, UCONN, to be their linebackers coach.

Wholley’s departure was confirmed by the Fordham Athletics Twitter account early in the afternoon on January 9.

Wholley first joined the Fordham staff for the 2014 season after coaching at UCONN. Under Wholley last season, the Rams were second in the Patriot League with 33 sacks and passing yards per game with 192.8. They also held opposing teams to a Patriot League-leading eight touchdowns and a passing efficiency of 106.6. The Rams finished with an 8-3 record last season.

While Wholley was at Fordham, 15 defensive players were named to All-Patriot League teams, including nine to the first team. Last season, junior defensive back Caleb Ham and senior defensive lineman Justin Vaughn were named to the first team and senior defensive back Jihaad Pretlow and senior linebacker George Dawson were named to the second team. Additionally, linebacker Stephen Hodge, FCRH ’16, made three All-America teams in 2015.

With the departure of Wholley – along with defensive line coach Jerrick Hall to Elon – head coach Andrew Breiner will need to rebuild his defensive coaching staff heading into his second season.
